Yikes - that's a little out of range just to dive a quarry (for me...). If I'm going to travel that distance it will be to the great lakes for shipwrecks Smile

Re:Haigh Quarry - dfreeman - 04-24-2004

Sounds like relatively tropical temperatures. Most lakes up this way (Red Granite, Lake Wazee) are still 48 deg at surface and 41 at depth.

Waiting for the fish to come out.

I've staffed a number of Instructor Development Courses and Instructor Examinations at Haigh, and have always had good conditions. It's the site where most if not all the Chicago IEs are conducted due to the conditions. For the instructors out there, it's a great place to take your students, as they have training platforms at the correct depths, lots of things for your students to explore, and very easy access. There is even a covered dock, where folks can practice their deep water entries. Yes, it's a bit of a drive, but if you're heading south, it makes for an enjoyable dive site.
