What's open? - MikeS - 11-24-2008

I can see that a lot of inland water is freezing.  Anyone know what is open and diveable?

In the past, Wazee has remained open long after other lakes have frozen up.

when does Wazee usually freeze over? I was hoping to get a dive in around the 13th. Do you still have to pay the fees as it is post season, and do they plow it if there is snow? I am not ice certified but I do want to try wazee in the cold before the ice hits, any advice? I think everything else from there and south to Illinois is iced over already.

Lake Wazee can stay open very late.  I have even gone in January.  Keith at Lake Wazee Sport Center can keep you posted on the conditions.  You still are supposed to pay.  They seem to keep it plowed now that they have paved the road.  The Wolf River below the dam in Shawano was clear of ice yesterday and probably will be divable for a week or two.

Hope this helps.
