Lake Mendota in May - FreediveWI - 05-03-2004

I was a little worried when I woke up yesterday with a head cold and SNOW! :'(

However, the lake looked so nice we just had to jump in for an hour- or four. Wink

My dive buddy, Ted, and I got to the lake around noon to the site of 20'+ vis and no snow. We jumpedin and started to scout for fish.

Here's a shot of Ted.

Ted ended up with the best shot of the day- two crappie at once! THat ones pretty hard to beat. Wink

While I got a few fish, nowhere near Ted's amount, I also happened to find two anchors and shot some photos- I like to mulit-task when I 'm out. ;D

Here's one of the guys that we couldn't spear, but had to get a shot of anyhow.

Some fish we happened upon, but usually we plant ourselves on the bottom and wait. The longer you wait the more fish that, usually, come up to you. The bass are always first, followed by small bluegill, and finally the larger crappie. THe small fish seem to check out everything first, and if they survive, the big ones start to move in.

Once you get a couple of fish the rest fo the school moves off in short order- I guess there really is somthing to be learned in those fish schools. ;D

Looks like a good time and good water conditions. Lake Wazee in the shallows was not much better.

Like the fish pictures and stories.

Keep on diving.
