You can join a scientific study by just clipping a lock of hair.
The state is hoping to test 2,000 hair samples from Wisconsin residents to get a reading of mercury exposure in the general population, said Lynda Knobeloch, senior toxicologist for the Wisconsin Division of Public Health.
