Devil's Lake with Diver's Realm - MikeS - 04-30-2003
On May 10, a dive shop in Appleton called Diver's Realm is sponsoring a picnic/dive at Devil's Lake State Park. I was wondering if anyone on this board is planning to go. I believe they want you to sign up at their store, but I think that if you email them, that would work. I believe it's a bring-a-dish-to-pass event.
So, any takes?

We had between 55 and 57 in shallow water (10-12ft) at Lannon Quarry this past weekend.

I haven't heard water temps for Devil's Lake. I would think that there would be mid 50's by the 10th.

Pleasant Lake was 54 degrees this past weekend and Devil's Lake was about the same two weeks ago when I was there.
I was there on a VERY windy day and the vis was less than 10'. This last week my dive buddy was out there taking some measurements for the university. He said that the lake is clearing up FAST, as the daphnia counts are starting to boom- they eat all of the other little critters that spoil the vis.
The DNR also decided to stock Devil's Lake with trout this year which means that we can no longer spearfish there.
On the bright side of things, I saw a school of over 300 brown trout swimming around in less than 5' of water when I was there last time.

How was the vis at Lannon? I'm assuming that it was pretty green (like always) but every once in a while it can be nice.

The vis at Lannon was pretty decent in shallow depths (15-20ft vis) but less around 30-40ft depth (8-10ft vis).

The "offical" report on Devil's Lake is 52 degrees (F) and 5.5M of vis (18.1 feet) as measured with a secchi disk.

So, is anyone going to the get together (pic nic, etc.)? I think if you're going you should call or email Divers Realm and bring a dish to pass. Email: cmg@diversrealm.com

I went last year and had a great dive before we were blown off the lake. Would like to go this year but I am out of town that weekend. Perhaps next year.
