2nd Annual Vintage Dive Assembly Aug 4th-7th Lake Wazee - schultz - 06-30-2005 Having recently aquired an Aqua-Lung (cir. 1952) and a Snark III Nemrod (cir. 1961), this looks like it might be some fun.... 2nd Annual Vintage Dive Assembly August 4th-7th, 2005 Wazee Lake Recreation Area Black River Falls, Wisconsin Sponsored by Vintage Scuba Supply and the Inland Divers Vintage Dive Club of Minnesota. Our goal is to get together as many two hose diving enthusiasts as possible for a great weekend of diving, socializing, eating, displaying vintage gear and having a great time. Everyone is welcome, whether you have pre-1975 scuba gear to dive with or just want to look and learn. Schedule of Events Friday, August 5th, after lunch. Two hose regulator testing... at 50 feet! We plan to have a variety of restored vintage regulators on pony bottles at a depth of approximately 50 feet. Divers will be able to test the various models to judge which breathes best. Friday, August 5th, late afternoon. Jerry Lang of Coon Rapids, Minnesota will give a short presentation on the history of the television series Sea Hunt, starring Lloyd Bridges. Jerry will discuss some of the actors involved in the series, as well as equipment used, set location, and more. He will also display some of his extensive Sea Hunt collection, which includes comic books, 8x10 photos, and other items similar to those used in the production. After Jerry's presentation, we will be showing some actual Sea Hunt episodes on 16mm film, outdoors in the Wazee campground. Saturday, August 6th, approximately 1 pm. We plan to get a record number of two hose regulator divers in the water, all at the same time. There will be plenty of still and video cameras on site to document this gathering of vintage enthusiasts. Saturday, August 6th, late afternoon. Ryan Spence of Louisville, Colorado will once again treat us to a presentation. Ryan is one of the foremost experts in the country on Cousteau diving equipment from the 1950's-80's. The presentation is entitled Back to the Future: "With the commercial success of The World of Jacques-Yves Cousteau (1966) Cousteau began to realize the potential of television as a means of sharing his exploits and promoting the fledgling scuba industry. Cousteau set out to define and share his vision for the future of diving. This quest generated some memorable designs and an unforgettable aesthetic. We will examine two generations of equipment developed for Cousteau, beginning with the Hydrodynamic Suit and culminating with the development of the innovative yet commercially unsuccessful Technisub RAID system. This evolution is full of interesting and humorous stories of success and failure. You will have the opportunity to see firsthand one of the original Hydrodynamic Housings and one of the only diveable RAID systems in existence. There will also be a screening of The World of Jacques-Yves Cousteau (1966). This rare 16mm film documents the third of the Conshelf Undersea Habitats and was Cousteauâs first television special." --Ryan Spence Various prizes will be awarded to the diver with the "most authentic" vintage outfit, according to popular vote. Other prizes will be awarded to diving participants by random drawing. Grand Prize random drawing! A fully reconditioned U.S. Divers DA Aquamaster (Serial No. 213533) will be awarded to a participating vintage diver by random drawing Saturday night! This regulator was generously donated by Bryan Pennington of VintageDoubleHose.com. Dan Barringer of Vintage Scuba Supply provided a new hose and mouthpiece assembly for this regulator.
