Oceanic DataMax
Any service shops in the north east WI area, that can check/calibrate the analog gauge part of it? Oceanic will no longer rebattery/calibrate it.
I popped it open and replaced the batteries and cleaned the surface rust off the metal diaphram from some moisture that did make it inside. I removed the silica gel packet as it was orange from the moisture, so it needs a new one. I cleaned and lubed the rubber diaphram and put it back together minus the packet. All it needs now is to be checked for accuracy in a pressure chamber. I mounted it in a wrist mount and freedove it on two of the markers on the RG compass course. Where my ProPlus2 computer read 14', the Datamax read ~15'. At 19' it would read upwards of 25'. So it appears that the gauge "lies" on the deep side, which is much better than the shallow side. It was cool to get a cumulative bottom time of 25 min (below 7') from all the pop can and other dives I made. (just keep all dives within 10 min of each other)
