Re:Haigh Quarry
Yikes - that's a little out of range just to dive a quarry (for me...). If I'm going to travel that distance it will be to the great lakes for shipwrecks

just got back form another dive @ haigh today. belive it or not ??? the water was 54 degress @ the surface and 50 degress @ 20ft. it made for a nice thermocline on the way back up. viz was still good and in the 30ft range. lol... 50 degress was down right balmy ;D. the blue gills were out in full force. here are a few pics...

Re:Haigh Quarry
Sounds like relatively tropical temperatures. Most lakes up this way (Red Granite, Lake Wazee) are still 48 deg at surface and 41 at depth.
Waiting for the fish to come out. Doug |

Re:Haigh Quarry
I've staffed a number of Instructor Development Courses and Instructor Examinations at Haigh, and have always had good conditions. It's the site where most if not all the Chicago IEs are conducted due to the conditions. For the instructors out there, it's a great place to take your students, as they have training platforms at the correct depths, lots of things for your students to explore, and very easy access. There is even a covered dock, where folks can practice their deep water entries. Yes, it's a bit of a drive, but if you're heading south, it makes for an enjoyable dive site.
