How much would you spend on a used AL80?
For this poll let's assume that the tank is a Catalina tank manufactured in 2004 with no visible damage, good paint, and a current vis.

I've run this poll in a couple other places but am curious what the replies will be from a Wisconsin only crowd.

I just voted 60-80.  What did the other poll say?

Catalinas have undesirable buoyancy characteristics for deco diving.  I wouldn't buy one at all.

Being that the tank can be used for regular recreational diving, and the tank is relatively new, I'd say no more than $90-100 would be fair.

I replied under $40. I can buy a new one for $190 with a year of free air fills. Air fills cost more in a year than the tank.

I wish somebody would do that for Trimix!  $190 isn't a good price, but I guess with the air fills it would even out a little?

I think for the purpose of this poll. ..recreational diving...just above 80.00 is a fair price..i dont think 100 is fair as there are too many new ones out there for not much more than that.....if i were doing the k ind of diving that Chris and the gang are doing...im not sure i would own anything used..i understand that you can give a tank a clean bill of health. with inspection and hydro...but at that level..i think i would resolve to the fact that i have made an incredible commitment to the sport of deep technical diving....and that cutting a corner on something as basic as a stage bottle..might lead to cutting corners on more importanat issues later down the line...Just my $.02....chris..i thought you had your own trimix "STILL" brewing at home. >Big Grin

I don't personally, but it is looking more like it might become a reality.  I have adequate access to mix, but with my recent relocation, it all got much less conveinent.  It still isn't free though ;D

Re: How much would you spend on a used AL80?
I bought two new Catalina Al80s last year at $150 ea.  So $80-100 would be fair for a very good cylinder.  My old Kidde Neutrabouy was nothing more than a bomb ready to go off.  If the aluminium cylinder is more than 10 years old, drill a hole in it, and take it to the scrapyard.  Various European Navies are putting programs in place to deadline all aluminium cylinders after 10 years if they pass hydro or not.  They have found that the aluminium weakens after 10 years of use, and most of the failures started occuring around the 2nd-3rd hydro period.

I have killed a number of Ebay auctions for cylinders, where the cylinders turned out to be those Kidde bombs.  With the current aluminium prices, a Al80 will net around $25 for scrap.
