Awarded To The Directors of The Annual Ghost Ships Festival
During the Ninth annual Ghost Ships Festival, Deep Blue presented its first âDiver of the Year Award.â This prestigious award recognizes the accomplishments of an individual whose noteworthy efforts to further public awareness of our maritime heritage and related scuba diving activities.
The initial awarding of the 2007 of the Diver of the Year Award goes to The Great Lakes Shipwreck Research Foundation, Inc.. This Non-profit corporation works to enhance public awareness of the phenomenal marine heritage of the Great Lakes and around the world through the Ghost Ships Festival. Two of the foundationâs shipwreck projects are Milwaukeeâs Fire boat No. 23 and the 312 foot wooden steamer âThe Appomattox.â The foundationâs unparalleled efforts to study, educate, conserve and promote marine heritage has led to the greater enjoyment of historic Great Lakes shipwrecks by both divers and non-divers. Receiving the award for the Great Lakes Shipwreck Research Foundation were Brad Friend, Kimm Stabelfeldt, and Jon Albrecht. The Original Golden Tortuga Rum Cake was first introduced in 1987 at restaurants in Grand Cayman. Now you can have a taste of the Caribbean right here in Milwaukee.
These fabulous treats contain very little preservatives or artificial flavor. According to Tortuga, they use only the finest natural ingredients to create those delectable Tortuga Rum Cakes. Their preservative is the five-year old, oak-barrel aged special Tortuga Rum that is used in every cake. Stop by your local Deep Blue location and pick up your own taste of the Caribbean for yourself or to share with your dive buddies. Deep Blue proudly recognized the first diver to complete their Dive Challenge at Milwaukeeâs ninth annual Ghost Ships Festival in March 2008.
Dive Master Candidate Tim Dake was the first diver to complete the Deep Blue Dive Challenge. Announced in 2007, the Dive Challenge provides a practical means to keep divers active and while generating and sustaining an interest in diving. The Deep Blue Dive Challenge represents a personal endeavor that divers get to tailor to their needs or desires.
The challenge is rather simple. The diver must complete six challenges in the year beginning and ending with the Deep Blue Dive Fest. The events that qualify as part of the challenge are numerous which makes it easy for divers to pick out six events with which to challenge themselves. To learn more about the Deep Blue Dive Challenge by visiting . This year both Deep Blue locations were recognized by the National Association of Underwater Instructors with the national Retail Excellence Award for 2007.
This highly prized award is awarded annually to NAUIâs top retail and dive training centers. This yearâs award was presented at the Our World Underwater Show in Rosemont, Illinois by Chad Barby, Steve Brown and Members of the Team Scuba NASCAR race team.
This marks the fourth consecutive year Deep Blue earned this prestigious award and the first time both store locations were recognized for their exceptional customer service and training abilities. The next time you see Pete, Kevin or any member of the Deep Blue Dive Team congratulate them for a job well done! |
