I'll agree but I've done tech rock climbing for 5 years or so and I've trusted my life to lots of gear but only a few knots. The 8 is one,  the bowline and with the correct useage, the clove hitch. I have an ice c-card and in my experiance I would use the bowline or dbl boline with a grape vine or bdl overhand to back it up. Like the poster said an 8 can turn into a marble and you have to cut out of it. I never liked that. The 8 is the easiest to tie and the easiest to inspect that it's tied correctly but the Bowline is just as good if you know the knot well.  Any knot can be tied wrong so know your sh*%.
