Re: Lake Wazee
I was there a couple of weeks ago - the viz was great above 30 feet and below 100 feet, but the viz in between those depths was pretty bad.

Re: Lake Wazee

We were there Labor Day weekend and last Friday night as well.  Seemed like we had pretty good viz when we got there before everyone mucked it all up.  I'd say 15 to 20ft.  Saw the boat finally!    We got our night diving specialty Sat night on Labor Day weekend and found those big round cement things, whatever they're called, saw a lot of crayfish too.    That Sun we were heading to the 20 ft platform off the south boat dock and ran into a small white line tacked off with rocks on the bottom instead.  We though, hrm, wonder where this goes and followed it.  Ended up at the 80ft platform (well, thats what the map says but our computer said it was 70ft.), brr, cold down there but we weren't too bad in our hoods and gloves.    I never realized that toilet was there either, we've dove off that site a couple times and that was the first time I saw it. heh  Go figure didn't have the camera with.  Last weekend we only dove Friday night, viz was about 15ft at night with our lights.  Sat we got up and it was just too damn cold and windy to put wet gear on and go in again.  Well, I had an ear infection anyhow from the weekend before, so I shouldn't have been in there at any rate, but it was a blast!    Sat looks to be TOTALLY awesome so far, but BRF is just too far for a one day trip, so will probably hit either Devils Lake or Pearl again with my son to get another few dives in for him before the weather gets really cold.
The only good diver is a wet diver.

Took a pleasent dive in Lake Wazee.  December is a great time to dive Lake Wazee.  No crowds, no dive classes to mess up visivbility, got the place to yourself.  Conditions were good with 20 to 25 feet visibility.  Still a little cloudy, but the tempurature was an even 42 deg F top to bottom.  Surprised at the cloudiness.  The above water tempurature of 14 deg F was a problem as things wanted to freeze up.  Almost got my dry suit to freeze up so that it would stand by itself.

Noticed that there were suckers hanging out at 100 feet.  Seems that they were doing thier thing there.  Lots of perch near the weeds at 20-30 feet.  When these grow up they should be nice fishing.  Nice conditions for taking a tour.

With these balmy conditions, be sure to take time out from shopping and get out diving.  Going to freeze over soon.

Then it will be time for ice diving!

Sweet!

Diving in Wisconsin is truly a 4 season sport.  How lucky can we be.

Did some diving at Lake Wazee on Saturday (December 9).  No ice and 41 deg F.  If these keeps up, there will be open water at New Years.  Visibility was around 20 feet, still cloudy but starting to clear in the deep parts.  Should be good by ice diving time.  Noticed a walleye and a bass hanging around, but the perch are still schooled at 20 feet in some spots.

Great diving.  Still time to get out there.

Doug and I did a couple more dives out at Wazee today - still all the way open, water was 39 at the top and 40/41 on the bottom.  There were a couple of other divers out there today too.

Okay viz - not the best, not the worst.  Almost missed the ball with all of the silt on it.

Still a few weeks left to dive Smile

Anyone know what the viz is at Wazee? Is it still ice free? I am thinking about heading up there this sunday to try out some new toys.

I'm sure it is ice free, but I don't know what the vis is.

Re: Lake Wazee
Well with the nice January weather we have been having at the ice fee conditions of Wazee, it was time to get a dive in on Sunday.  Dove the far boat landing out of the bay and toward the swimming area then down to 125 feet, following the line that goes across the lake.  Vis was fairly decent 0-30 and then 80 to 125.  The murky 30-80 seems to be getting a little less murky.  I'd say 10-15 vis in the murky area.  Not at all bad.

Temp was pretty much 39 degrees top to bottom according to my computer.  Cold on the lips and face.

Keith at Wazee Sports has rescheduled the Annual ice dive outing at Feb. 24.  It had originally been scheduled the first week of Feb. but unless we get the next three weeks of extremely frigid weather, ice will be out of the question.  Let's hope we have enough ice to have the ice outing.

Ice would be o.k., but if not, we can still get together to eat your white chicken chili! ;D
