Re: Blackbeard live-aboard questions
Thanks for all the tips everyone..Does anyone know or can guess how the weather should be during the early part of January? I am just wondering how the diving should be during this time and if there would be a lot of squalls and things. We were down there in march, so I have never dove there in December or january
diving is life

Re: Blackbeard live-aboard questions
When I was there in January 2 or 3 years ago we had 55-60 degrees all week. |

Re: Blackbeard live-aboard questions
What about seasickness. If you are even a little prone to it should you even consider a live aboard?

Re: Blackbeard live-aboard questions
If you take medicine that works, take it every day. If you haven't found anything to cure your sea sickeness, stay home. The Miami to Bahamas crossing can get a little dicey. |

Re: Blackbeard live-aboard questions
Had some major waves when we crossed in 2003.
Weather is extremely variable during this time. I rememeber ending one night dive and it was 45 deg F. In 2005 we had 60-70 deg F weather and it was very nice. The week before was cold, raining and plenty of waves. You get what you get. Are you leaving through Miami or Freeport? Doug |

Re: Blackbeard live-aboard questions
We had a rough crossing, both ways, but once over there it was flat calm and everyone was fine.
Try not to load up too much on the welcome dinner before you set sail. :-X Jon |

Re: Blackbeard live-aboard questions
I dont know what is with everyone and thier 7m suits my buddie and I used 3m suits and were just fine. I guess they need to spend more time in colder water ;D . I only put on my hood for some of the night dives and for all but one, I was too warm with it on.  The only thing I did not like was the fact that I could only do 3-4 dives per day. I hope I can fit it in to my schedule this year, I would like to go this January again with Dive Point. As far as the crossings are concerned I just loaded up on drugs first and was happly asleep for both of them

Re: Blackbeard live-aboard questions
Being wet while diving is weird enough without being cold too. |

Re: Blackbeard live-aboard questions
You could get away with 3mm on the January 2005 trip. But it was much colder in January 2003. Josh ended up wearing the same stuff he wears in Lake Wazee and was still cold.
When we could get him out of bed. Doug |
